Homme de gauche, franc-maçon, féministe, bibliographe, musicien et alpiniste, Henri La Fontaine est aussi et surtout une figure incontournable du mouvement pacifiste du début du XXesiècle. Contemporain de Paul Otlet, ce Bruxellois diplômé de l’ULB a cofondé avec ce dernier l’Institut international de bibliographie qui deviendra plus tard le Mundaneum.
Auteur, entre autres, d’une Bibliographie de la paix et de l’arbitrage international, Henri La Fontaine a contribué à la création de la Société belge de l’arbitrage et de la paix qui participera ensuite à la fondation du Bureau international de la paix, qu’il présidera à partir de 1907.
Cent ans après la remise du prix Nobel à cet humaniste belge aux multiples facettes, cette publication revient sur ses différentes casquettes.
Jacques Gillen est archiviste et responsable des fonds relatifs à l’anarchisme et au pacifisme au Mundaneum (Mons).
